On average, lucid dreams last 14 minutes.
Lucid Dreaming happens in the REM (Rapid eye movement) phase of sleep.
Lucid dreaming is rated as uncommon, and around 50% of the population experience a lucid dream at least once in their life.
There are many different ways to measure and induce lucid dreams.

Lucid Dreaming is when you are aware that you are dreaming, and have a level of control over the dream.

Lucid dreaming has both potential dangers, and potential benefits.

Lucid Dream Induction Methods

Not all people naturally have lucid dreams, so to induce lucid dreams, a variety of induction methods are used, some having varying side effects.

Medications (Oldoni et al.).

Donezepil
Is effective on 80% of people with practice, and has common but reversible side effects. it also has a low risk of developing more vivid nightmares.
Shows high levels of effectiveness with no common side effects
Galantamine
Rivastigmine
Achieves what donezepil does, but with fewer side effects.
Galantamine is the most efficient, with the least side effects. it initially shows 40% efficiency in inducing lucid dreams, and the efficiency rate increases with lucid dreaming practice.

Herbs (Oldoni et al.).

Caryophyllaceae
Ashwagandha
Not extensive research is conducted on the efficiency of herbs on lucid dreams, but some people still use them.

Techniques (Timperley), (Oldoni et al.).

Consists of waking up in the middle of sleeping and staying awake for 30-60 minutes, afterwards continuing to sleep. It allows you to go into the REM phase of sleep closer to when you first fall asleep. Developed by Marc VanDeKeere.
Wake-back-to-bed technique
Reality monitoring
MILD method
This technique is unique for the reason that it helps recognize lucid dreams instead of induce them, moreover, it helps you remember them. This technique focuses on methods to recognize whether you are experiencing a dream, or reality, for instance, checking your watch, hands, or surroundings. Developed by Dr. Paul Tholey.
MILD method (Mnemonic Induction of Lucid Dreams), concentrates on remembering your intentions for the interval of lucid dreaming. It can consist of repeating a certain phrase repeatedly as you fall asleep, and focusing on it. Developed by Dr. Stephen LaBerge.
