Borderline personality disorder is characterized by difficulty regulating emotions. People with borderline personality disorder feel intense emotions for a long period of time (NAMI). This can lead to poor self image, troubled relationships, and self harm. There are types of therapy to help, but no specific medication. While lucid dreaming may not be too helpful, the person may be able to boost their self esteem and self image through. Lucid dreaming could be a temporary escape from reality but there is a chance it will negatively contribute to the intense emotions someone with BPD feels.
It hasn't completely been decided if lucid dreaming would be beneficial for borderline personality disorder, but there is a case to show the effects of lucid dreaming. A 35 year old woman with nightmares associated with borderline personality disorder and depression was able to moderately reduce the nightmare frequency and reported a better mood after waking up with only 4-6 weeks of lucid dreaming (Macêdo).
